Sires

Sires account for the greatest share of a herd's genetic make-up.  After three generations of daughters from genetically superior sires, seven-eights of a herd's genetic make-up comes from the sires.  With this in mind it is easy to see why an AI program is so important to a herd's development.

Because a good AI program will achieve a 50-60% conception rate, it is important to have good follow-up (clean-up) bulls as they will sire 40-50% of your calf crop.

Our 2006 and spring 2007 calves have proven that investment in superior sires is a key element in achieving genetic goals. With our focus on quality not quantity our herd are a key element of our breeding program.

To further this goal we have acquired three superior sires as follow-up bulls.

MC John Wayne 16P3

This newly acquired John Wayne son has huge EPD numbers that will compliment our Sonny Side and Cool Hand daughters.  The MC 16P3 bull was recently purchased from John Traver, Third Day Ranch, and will be part of our fall breeding season.  16P3 is moderate size, big foot, tremendous rib capacity, testicle size and overall fleshing ability. Breeding interest is shared with Mound Creek, Miller Brangus and Third Day Ranch.

 MC Sonny Side 165M

MC165M was purchased in 2003 as one of the top young bulls from the Mound Creek bull sale.  His calves have a birth weight of 65-75 pounds and adds length.  He is a great bull for heifers.  We have three years of experience using him on heifers and have not had to pull a calf. His sire, Bright Side is the #1 rib-eye sire, #5 yearling bull and #12 scrotal EPD's in the breed.   Breeding interest is shared with Mound Creek Ranches.

MC Cool Hand 10P10

MC 10P10 offers us much genetic reach  and is one of the true beef bulls.  His dam is on of the favorite Angus donors.  His sire, MC Cool Hand 000J4, is the greatest three-quarter bulls in breed records.  This Cool Hand son will lay the pounds on the scale and put your calf crop in the high end grid markets.  His first calves are on the ground  and they are living up to our expectations. Awesome!  Breeding interest is shared with Mound Creek Ranches.

Contact Tracy Holbert or SanJac River Ranch for semen on any of these sires.
